Poetry Tasting.

“With poetry, I am catching moments like fireflies, to hold their light before it disappears.”

— Neelam

“There is a star out in space,

Completely unaware

We are dazzled by her light;

Held together by her own gravity -

A sight to behold.

She is enough, for simply existing.

“A turtle does not seek her shell from fear,

Hesitation, or shame.

She simply found a place to rest

Inside of herself.

That’s the secret

Behind her little smile.”

— Neelam Patel

“A lion’s chest is broad and deep.

Not because he is so proud of his muscles.

It is grand because it is from this

Immense chamber

Where he fights tooth and nail

To keep his vulnerable heart

Soft, happy, alive;

Measuring his kingdom

By the capacity inside his chest.”

— Neelam Patel

I am the wide ocean,
catching it, reflecting it back

into space, delighting in you,
shimmering with you, in your love.”

— Neelam Patel

“The coral reef:

Don’t look to me as shiny jewelry.

I am also breathing for my life,

just like you”

— Neelam Patel

“Peacocks never hesitate

to own their Divinity -

Flaming out colors, as if waving

back to the gods -

feeling always deserving”

— Neelam Patel

“The golden eagle does not care

who stares

at her wingspan.

Why should you?”

— Neelam Patel

“Feast well on only the loving things.

bite life’s pomegranate whole,

instead of settling for seeds.

Let the extra love spill

down your cheeks”
